The Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD), Mohammad Ali, said that despite the opportunity to install free submarine cable in the country, it was not implemented due to the myopic leadership of the Khaleda Zia government. Tajul Islam.

The event was organized on the occasion of the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Department of Information Technology and Communications with the Department of Local Government on the use of an area of 4,000 square feet on floors 5 and 6 of the complex building of new construction in all the Upazila Parishads of the country.
The local government minister said then-Prime Minister Khaleda Zia had said that the implementation of the undersea cable would pose a threat to the country’s security and there was a danger of data smuggling. Due to their myopia, the country and the people of the country have been deprived of this opportunity. A case has even been brought against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for this initiative. But at that time many countries in the world joined the submarine and now it is reaping the benefits.
He said that today, the benefits of information and technology have become the engine of the economy. Compared to other countries in the world, Bangladesh has a lot of potential in this sector. To get the maximum benefit from information technology and achieve the 2021, 2030 and 2041 targets, all governing bodies must work together.
The Minister of Local Government also said that today’s agreement between the Department of Local Government and the ICT Department as an example of joint work will open new horizons. He said that while several developed countries in the world started with the garment industry or any other industry, today all countries are giving the highest importance to information technology. We have to keep pace with the world, then the country will advance.
Referring to the United States in this context, he said that the magic of the United States being the richest country in the world today is development in the field of information technology. Realizing this, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her worthy son, ICT Advisor Sajeeb Wazed Joy, dreamed of building a digital Bangladesh, which has now come true.
Tajul Islam further said that the image of Bangladesh in the information technology sector has been raised to the top of the world thanks to the innovative power of the information and communication technology adviser, Sajeeb Wazed Joy. Bangladesh is mentioned as a reference when there is a debate on information technology in the United States.
In his special guest address, the Minister of State for Information and Communications Technology, Junaid Ahmed Palak, said that when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formed the government in 2008, there was no digital service in the country. But now all government services are reaching every house for the welfare of Digital Bangladesh.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was chaired by the Senior Secretary of the Department of Local Government, Helaluddin Ahmed. The Senior Secretary of the Department of Information and Communication Technology, NM Ziaul Alam PAA and senior officials of the Department of Local Government and the Department of ICT.
It should be noted that within the framework of the Establishment of Digital Connectivity (EDC) project being implemented by the Department of Information and Communications Technology in the recently built Upazila Parishad Complex in each Upazila of the Department of Engineering of the Local Government, switching rooms of networks, Upazila Networks, Operations centers, Upazila ICT services in each Upazila. It was decided to install the ICT infrastructure and offices one by one for the installation of laboratories and offices.
