On the occasion of the centenary of the birth of the Father of the Bangabandhu Nation, the 50th anniversary of the great victory of independence and in protest of the demolition of the Bangabandhu sculpture in Kushtia, the largest sand sculpture of Bangabandhu has been erected in Labani Point on the beach at Cox’s Bazar.
The sculpture was inaugurated at 11:30 am on Wednesday with the national anthem, human chain and 100 doves flying in the sky.

The lead artist of the sculpture team is Kamrul Islam Shipon The daily star“The sculpture, built with the general cooperation of the district administration, is 6 feet high and 14 feet wide,” he said.
Referring to ‘this is the largest Bangabandhu sculpture in the country so far made of sand,’ he added, ‘The sculpture will remain on the beach until December 31. Then the district administration will remove the sculpture.
He also said that 10 students from the Dhaka University College of Fine Arts have made the sculpture in one week.
Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner. Kamal Hossain told the media that the people of Cox’s Bazar wanted to send a message to the people of the country by making a large sand sculpture of Bangabandhu on the longest beach in the world in protest of the insult to the sculpture of the Father of the Nation in Kushtia.
Meanwhile, members of the Cox’s Bazar Art Club are building a sculpture on the Bali Padma Bridge in another part of Laboni Point on the beach.
