- Bangabandhu Mujibur Rahman received the 2020 Gandhi Peace Prize from the Government of India.

And in recognition of his contribution, the Government of India awards him the 2020 Gandhi Peace Prize. The statement further stated: “Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s contribution in spreading the message of peace is immense.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh is celebrating the centenary of Mujibur Rahman’s birth this year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will depart for Bangladesh on March 26 to participate in the event. He said, “Bangabandhu is also the hero of the Indians.”
Incidentally, the Government of India has been awarding the Gandhi Peace Prize since 1995. The Prime Minister herself is part of the jury created for the award. Also present were the Chief Justice of India, SO Bobde, leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, spokesman for the Lok Sabha Om Birla.
In the past, this honor has been bestowed on former Tanzanian President Julius Nair, Nelson Mandela, Archbishop Desmond Tudu, Ramakrishna Mission, Grameen Bank of Bangladesh. On Bangabandhu’s birthday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a tweet that Mujibur Rahman was a role model for all Indians. He was a defender of human rights and freedoms.
The Center has also released the names of the 2019 Gandhi Peace Prize winners. The honor was conferred on the late Sultan Qaboos bin Syed Al Syed. The award is given in recognition of the initiatives it has taken in the past to build good relations with India.
