Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon-2021 was held on Sunday under the general supervision of the Army to celebrate the centenary of the birth of the Father of the Nation. The competition started at the Army Stadium in Dhaka and ended in Hatirjheel. According to ISPR, Interior Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal was present as keynote guest at the opening performance of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon 2021 and Minister of State for Youth and Sports Md. Zahid Ahsan Russell. At the end of the competition, the awards ceremony and closing ceremony were held at the Hatirjheel Amphitheater. The Army Chief of Staff, General Aziz Ahmed, distributed the prizes to the winners as the main guest at the closing ceremony. A total of 200 runners participated in the half marathon. Among the elite runners who participated in the marathon, 11 men, 8 women, 3 men and 3 women participated in the full marathon. Apart from this, 12 runners and 4 runners participated in the full marathon. A total of 35 foreign runners, including 23 elite runners from France, Kenya, Ethiopia, Bahrain, Belarus, Lesotho, Ukraine, Spain and Morocco, and 12 from the Maldives, Nepal and India participated in the marathon. At the beginning of his concluding remarks, the Chief of the Army General Staff paid a profound tribute to the great architect of independence, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. At the same time, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for organizing the Dhaka-2021 Marathon and leading the country forward on the path of prosperity. He hoped that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon-2021 would create social and health awareness among people from all walks of life in Bangladesh. He expressed firm hope that the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon would be organized on the occasion of the Bangabandhu Homecoming Day on January 10 each year.
