The Department of Secondary and Higher Education (Maushi) has ordered university directors to ban unauthorized access to the public campuses of the country’s public and private universities.

The letter sent to the directors of all the country’s universities to ensure the safety of university dormitories by keeping them closed due to the coronavirus epidemic, said: “Unnecessary public access to the university campus must be prohibited.”

The decision was made in the context of a rape in the dormitory of MC College in Sylhet. On the night of September 25, a local girlfriend was raped while visiting the MC College campus in Sylhet with her husband. There is a storm of condemnation and criticism across the country for the rape of some BCL workers.

Meanwhile, Mausi’s instructions arrived; As stated, this step is in the interest of safety.

The letter said that all educational institutions in the country have been closed since March last year due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Mausi asked the directors to implement it urgently with nine-point instructions.

In addition to prohibiting entry to the public, the instructions are:

>> The shelters must be closed and the security of the dormitories must be guaranteed.

>> Police patrols on campus should be intensified in collaboration with local administration.

>> All entrances, including the main door of the organization, must be guarded 24 hours a day.

>> A surveillance team should be formed in the organization and a regular inspection report should be submitted to the director of the organization.

>> Online class activities should continue and information should be provided to the regional director.

>> Students should monitor class participation online and connect with parents.

>> Students should be instructed to follow hygiene rules.

>> Necessary steps should be taken to protect general government property and documents, including the science lab, ICT lab, and university library.
