More than 50 people were burned when half a dozen air conditioners exploded at the Baitus Salat mosque in the western part of the Fatulla area in Narayanganj after Friday prayers.

The explosion of the air conditioning shattered the Thai glass in the window of the Baitus Salat mosque and fell on the worshipers there.

The blast broke many windows, including the frames, and fell inside the mosque.

When the explosion occurred after the Asr prayers, more than 50 people were praying in the Baitus Salat mosque.

Debashish Vardhan, deputy director of the fire department, told bdnews24.com: “We have found the presence of Freon gas in the air conditioning in the air inside the mosque. It is investigating whether there are any other incidents behind this.”

Law enforcement officers and members of the fire department arrived at the scene immediately after the explosion.

Members of the law enforcement agencies collected several posters from inside the mosque.

After the blast, the wounded were rescued and taken to Narayanganj General Hospital.

The seriously injured were rushed to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Plastic Surgery and Burns in Dhaka.
