Badal Roy, one of three presidential candidates in the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) elections, has requested to withdraw his nomination papers. He submitted a letter to withdraw from the election one hour after the deadline.
Saturday was the last day to pick up the nomination papers for the BFF elections to be held on October 3. Saidur Rahman Manik and Zakir Hossain Babul withdrew their nomination papers within the stipulated time. As a result, a total of 48 candidates will compete against 21 positions.
However, an hour after the planned withdrawal of the candidacy, around 6:00 p.m., Badal’s wife, Madhuri Roy, arrived at the BFF headquarters with a letter signed by the former footballer. In that brief letter, Badal’s physical illness was cited as the reason for her decision to withdraw from the elections. Since the stroke two years ago, her physical activities and movements have been limited within certain limits.
The Electoral Commission will release the final list of candidates on Sunday. Then it will be known if Badal’s request has been accepted.
Former footballer and current coach Shafiqul Islam Manik is the only other candidate to run for president in the upcoming election unlike three-time BFF president Kazi Salahuddin.
