Kompaniganj Upazila Basurhat of Noakhali The public opponent of Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza, organizing secretary of the Upazila Awami League and former president of Upazila, Mizanur Rahman Badal, has been arrested for a month and a half. Noakhali Police Superintendent Thursday night. Alamgir Hossain confirmed this information and said that he has been shown arrested in multiple cases.

Meanwhile, Quader Mirza was under surveillance in the municipal building at the time of writing this report around 1 pm yesterday. A large number of police officers and members of the RAB were deployed in front of the building and its surroundings.

Earlier, Badal was picked up in a minibus in front of a tea shop in the Noakhali Press Club area around 4:15 pm. The family later reported that men dressed in white had picked it up.

On February 19, a shooting took place between supporters of Abdul Quader Mirza and Mizanur Rahman Badal in Chaprashirhat Bazar in Companyganj. Journalist Burhan Uddin Muzakkir was shot at that time. He later died at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital on the night of February 20. Subsequently, clashes and shootings took place between the two sides at the facilities of the Basurhat de la upazila municipality around 9 pm on Tuesday. A Juba League activist named Alauddin was shot and killed in the incident. In addition, some 50 people were injured, including 10 who were shot.

According to a witness to the Badal kidnapping, Badal, along with some activists, was having tea at a tea shop in the Crescent Market on the west side of the Press Club. At that moment a black minibus arrived and stopped there. In a minute, some people got out of the minibus and picked up Badal. The minibus then headed west of District Judge’s Court Road onto the main city road.

Mizanur Rahman Badal’s younger brother, Rahim Ullah Bidyut, said his brother was taken away by DB police. “Why aren’t law enforcement arresting Quader Mirza?” He asked.

Meanwhile, the tense situation in the Basurhat area following Tuesday’s clashes was quite normal yesterday. However, the panic among the people has not yet subsided. Adequate police and RAB patrols continue. Shops have been opened in Basurhat Bazar since yesterday morning and vehicles have moved normally.

Companiganj Police Station OC Mir Zahidul Haque Rony said Nurnabi, a night watchman from Basurhat municipality, had filed a lawsuit against the municipal building for damaging the municipal building on Tuesday night. Hundreds of names have been mentioned and more than 100 anonymous people have been charged. Previously, the police filed a case as a plaintiff.

Yesterday morning, Municipal Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza visited various places in the Basurhat Bazaar and exchanged greetings with locals, including businessmen. Later he went to the municipal building and performed office work. He told reporters at the time that he disagreed with the Noakhali District Awami League’s call for an investigation into the Basurhat incident. Nor does he accept the police investigation. He demanded a judicial investigation into the incidents, saying there could be no impartial investigation into those involved in the anti-politics.

It is worth mentioning that the situation throughout upazila has been volatile for the past month and a half or two due to a dispute between Abdul Quader Mirza, younger brother of the secretary general of the Awami League, and Obaidul Quader, deputy from the Companiganj constituency. Opposition groups called for a boycott of the by-elections, but two of the protesters were killed and two others were injured.
