Presidential candidate Badal Roy has announced his withdrawal from the upcoming Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) elections. The former footballer has once again mentioned physical illness as a reason. He also apologized to grassroots organizers for withdrawing from the election.
“I am withdrawing from the elections,” he said at a press conference at the Mohammedan Sporting Club facilities on Friday. Grassroots organizers are helpless. My heart wept for them. I don’t know how they will handle the matter. They can suffer a lot. Even then I officially retired today. The ones with candidates, voters, delegates, are all great in their respective areas. You will vote thoughtfully. I want a strong committee in my soccer federation. Select those that will work. Please do not vote for those who do not work.
He added: ‘You know the next election is October 3. I ran for president with the courage of the Mohammedan club. I have appeared in front of you in this club with a very heavy mind. This choice has already caused a lot of confusion. I was with BFF for a long time. I was involved in many things in football. I’m sorry to hear that I can’t live without this football. I always talk about football, I criticize, I protest. I don’t do anything against anyone personally. The only thing here is that my physical condition is very bad. But I have struggled with this body. Just to keep up good football. I’ll tell you my whole state of mind here. I have no complaints against anyone. The only complaint is that everyone has a responsibility to fail. You have to take responsibility for failure in all parts of life. But we are not here. BFF doesn’t have that practice.
There are accusations that Badal had asked to withdraw from the polls for the first time last Saturday under “pressure from various sectors.” An hour after the planned withdrawal of the candidacy, Badal’s wife, Madhuri Roy, arrived at the BFF headquarters with a letter signed by her. However, the next day, the Electoral Commission released the final list of candidates by putting their name on the list of presidential candidates.
There are more rumors that Badal, who is a soccer player from Bangladesh, is still pushing. So he was forced to call a press conference and formally announce his resignation. Although he did not want to comment on the matter at the beginning of his speech, he later lashed out at current BFF president Kazi Salahuddin, saying: I am leaving here due to physical illness (he recovered from the coronavirus a few days ago). There are doubts if I will be able to work even if I am voted ”.
‘The question is, why am I sitting here again? Because my wife took over an hour to get there. It took too long. There has been a legal problem due to the passage of time. If you wanted to solve the problem, Mr. Saladin had a lot of power to solve it. I don’t know why you are harassing me, ‘Badal added.
