The leaders of a section of Hefazat-e-Islam have demanded that Junaid Babungari take full responsibility for the incident that took place in Shapla Chattar on May 5, 2013. They claimed that Junaid Babungari, the then Secretary General of Hifazat-e- Islam, was behind the incident at Shapla Chattar in Motijheel during the blockade of Dhaka seven years ago. That day, Babungari kept Hefazat leaders and activists in Shapla Chattar overnight without informing then-Amir Shah Ahmad Shafi. His idea was that if he could take up position in Shapla Square all night, the army would be forced to sink into the situation that would be created.
They made the demand in a discussion at the Chittagong Press Club on Wednesday (December 16) morning. The discussion was organized by the Shafis under the title of discussion and exchange of views on the life’s work and the contribution of the late Shah Ahmad Shafi.
The meeting was chaired by Abdul Jabbar, Director of Mezbahul Uloom Madrasa in Nasirabad, Chittagong City. Faizullah, former deputy general secretary of Hifazat Islam Mainuddin Ruhi, the leaders of Hifazat Nurul Islam, Nurul Alam, Yasin Habib and Shamsul Alam spoke. Shah Ahmad Shafi’s family spoke on behalf of the son of former publicity secretary Anas Madani and his brother-in-law. Moin Uddin.
Salimullah, former deputy general secretary of Hefazat-e-Islam, told the meeting: “The meeting held in Shapla Chattar on the same day was asked to end at 6pm. Hazrat (Shafi Hazur) himself was in favor of finishing at 6 in the afternoon. But Junaid Babungari misunderstood Hazrat in many ways. Babungari told the teacher that madrasa boys from all over the country were coming to Shapla Chattar. If he can make it through the night, the army will come down. He then changed his mind without informing the teacher. The lord didn’t say a word. The location of Shapla Chattar has been expanded at the personal will of Babungari. Junaid Babungari will have to take full responsibility for the incident.
Faizullah said that Ahmed Shafi did not die a natural death. He was killed on purpose. That is why I demand a judicial investigation.
Former Deputy Secretary General of Hifazat-e-Islam Mainuddin Ruhi has made the same demand.
He said: ‘Ahmed Shafi Hazur has been killed. Those involved in this must be identified through a judicial investigation and brought to justice. This is the responsibility of the government, the government has to assume this responsibility.
Ruhi further said that Ahmed Shafi Hazur has been forced to accept martyrdom. He was deliberately killed. The master was placed under house arrest and food and medicine were detained. Ambulances were also prevented from reaching the hospital.
