Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has said that Turkey should be included in the peace talks on the Nagorno-Karabakh crisis. He made the call in an interview with Russia’s KRBT TV, Turkish news agency Anatolia reported.
When asked what role Turkey could play in the talks, Aliyev said that Turkey’s presence may not be measured in terms of legality or necessity, but that it is a technical question.
The Azeri president made the claim at a time when Armenia accuses Turkey of providing all kinds of patronage to his country, including military cooperation.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced his full support for Azerbaijan.
Even Yerevan says Turkey should be excluded from the Minsk mediator group because it has sided with the Karabakh crisis. However, Azerbaijan has denied the allegations.
Turkey has made it clear that the country is on the side of Baku and will not hesitate to assist Azerbaijan in any way possible when the border conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia over ownership of the Nagorno-Karabakh region has recently started.
