Azerbaijan shot down a Russian military helicopter. It was learned that two crew members of the plane died. Russia has yet to respond to the allegations, but Russia has launched an investigation. However, Azerbaijan has already learned that the Russian plane was shot down by mistake. The country apologized to Moscow for the incident and offered compensation.
The plane was reported to have crashed in the Nakhchivan enclave of Azerbaijan. Meanwhile, Armenia and Azerbaijan have been embroiled in a month-long conflict to seize control of Nagarno-Karabakh. The clashes between the two neighbors have already claimed thousands of lives. The Russian plane was shot down by Azerbaijan at a time when Russia was deploying troops in the region. Before the incident, Russia signed a tripartite agreement with the two countries to end the war. But as hopes of ending the war spread, a third-party military plane crashed. It should be noted that Russia has not yet participated in the war directly with either side.
Under the recently concluded three-nation agreement scheme, Russia’s military will remain in the country’s conflict zone for five years. The Russian president called on the two countries to work together to resolve the conflict. Sources: Reuters, Al Jazeera.
