Dhaka: Ayesha Khanam, a heroic freedom fighter and President of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, has passed away (Innalillahi wa inna ilahi rajiun).
He took his last breath on Saturday (January 2) morning.
This information was given to banglanews by the Secretary General of Bangladesh, Mahila Parishad Maleka Banu.
Maleka Banu said that Ayesha Khanam, Bangladeshi President Mahila Parishad, had been ill for a long time. He suffered from lung cancer. His physical condition deteriorated on Friday night (January 1) and he took his last breath on Saturday morning.
He further said that the body of Ayesha Khanam will be brought to the Bangladeshi Mahila Parishad headquarters in Secon Bagicha in the capital at 9 am to pay tribute. From there, he will be buried next to the grave of engineer Mortuza Hasan’s late husband in his village family cemetery in Netrokona.
It is worth mentioning that Ayesha Khanam was an active organizer of all progressive movements, including the student movement of 1962, the mass uprising of 1971, and the great war of liberation. At the end of her student life, she dedicated herself to the rights of marginalized women. Upon her death, the women’s movement in Bangladesh lost a true guardian.
