Police arrested an Awami League leader named Golzar Hossain (35) in a case of raping his expatriate wife. Pabna’s Chatmohar police arrested him on Wednesday night. The arrested Golzar is the son of Motaleb Hossain from Nazirpur village in Natore Baraigram upazila Zonal Union and deputy general secretary of the Zonal Union Awami League.

The Officer-in-Charge (CO) of Chatmohar Police Station Aminul Islam confirmed the case and said the expat had been living in Iraq for two years in the Rampur village of the Haripur union in Chatmohar upazila. From there, he regularly sent money to his wife. Meanwhile, the leader of the Awami League, Golzar Hossain, from Nazirpur village, had an illicit affair with the expatriate’s wife and raped her more than once. At one point, Golzar Hossain embezzled 5 lakh 20 lakhs at different times for fear of spreading obscene images of the housewife. The expatriate husband returned to the country a month ago and wanted a money account.

In this situation, his wife said, Golzar has 5 lakh 20 lakhs. If you want money, keep making excuses. On October 2, when her husband asked for money again, Golzar and his men beat and wounded her. He filed a complaint at the police station and the police visited the scene.

An arbitration meeting was held on Wednesday afternoon to resolve the matter. In the arbitration, the housewife revealed the issue of rape and torture. But since the rape issue was non-negotiable, the referee suffered acts of vandalism. Subsequently, the housewife brought a rape case to the police station and the police arrested the defendant Golzar Hossain overnight.

Nazrul Islam, secretary general of the Awami League Zonal Union, confirmed the title of the arrested Golzar Hossain, saying that what he had done had tarnished the image of the party and the government. We are preparing to expel him from the team.
