The elite Australian army killed Afghan civilians and prisoners of war in cold blood. The Australian military has recently recognized it.
A senior Australian military official said they were “very sorry” for the incident. An investigation into the incident has been launched and the culprits will be punished.
In 2002, the Australian Army went to Afghanistan. They have long fought in Afghanistan on behalf of NATO forces. The reported incidents occurred between 2005 and 2016.
However, the incidents never came to light. A few years ago, some files were leaked from Australian Army headquarters.
The information appeared in the media under the Afghan file name. It shows how some of Australia’s elite forces tortured civilians. Only then did the investigation begin and the truth came out.
General Angus Campbell, a senior member of the Australian elite army, said the army had killed at least 39 Afghan civilians.
Some of the victims were common farmers and some were teachers. They had nothing to do with the war. The Inspector General of the Australian Police is investigating the incident.
He said that the Australian military had carried out a series of such incidents between 2005 and 2009. Never before have such serious misconduct allegations been made against the Australian military. The guilty will be severely punished.
