A case has been brought against a young man in Kaliganj upazila of Gazipur for allegedly raping his aunt. The young man has been on the run since the incident.
Kaliganj Police Officer in Charge (CO) AKM Mizanul Haque said this on Sunday.
The name of the young accused is Shafiqul Islam (38). He worked as an assistant to a bricklayer.
Citing the case, OC AKM Mizanul Haque said the 52-year-old housewife’s husband fell asleep while returning home late Friday night. At around 8:30 pm, the son of the housewife’s neighbor’s brother-in-law, Shafiqul, knocked on the door of the house. When the woman opened the door thinking that her husband had arrived, Shafiqul entered the house, tied his aunt’s face, raped her and fled. Later, when the housewife screamed, the locals came forward and rescued her. He was later taken to the Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex.
The CO also said a case was filed against Shafiqul at the police station on Saturday night. The defendant Shafiqul has been on the run since the incident. The police continue their operation to arrest him.
