On Tuesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Baki Billah ordered that he be sent to jail.
Early Monday, the RAB arrested him in the Diabari area of the capital. The investigator of the case requested to send him to jail showing his arrest under article 54.
On the afternoon of August 21, 2004, a grenade attack was carried out at a rally of the Awami League on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital. The attack killed 24 people, including Ivy Rahman, then the Awami League’s secretary for women’s affairs, wife of the late President Zillur Rahman.
Hundreds of Awami League leaders and activists, including the Awami League president and current Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, were injured. Although 33 convicts convicted in the grenade attack were in jail, 18 escaped. When Iqbal was arrested, 15 people are fleeing.
The lower court issued its verdict on 10 October 2016 in the case of the grenade attack at the rally of the president of the Awami League, Sheikh Hasina.
The Dhaka court of first instance sentenced 19 people, including the Minister of State for the Interior, Lutfuzzaman Babar, and Vice Minister Abdus Salam Pintu, to death in the BNP-Jamaat coalition government. Nineteen people, including the son of then Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, Tareq Rahman, were sentenced to life in prison. In addition to Tareq, the other fugitives are: Harish Chowdhury, political secretary to the former prime minister (life sentence), Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad (life sentence), ex-BNP MP from Muradnagar, Comilla, retired lieutenant colonel Saiful Islam Joarder (two years ) Retired former ATM Division Director General Amin Ahmed (two years in prison), owner of Hanif Paribahan, Mohammad Hanif (sentenced to death), militant leader Maulana Tajuddin (sentenced to death), Mahibul Muttakin (life sentence), Anisul Morsalin ( life sentence), Mohammad Khalil (life sentence) Maulana Liton (life sentence), Jahangir Alam Badr (death sentence), Mufti Shafiqur Rahman (life sentence), Mufti Abdul Hai (life sentence) and Ratul Ahmed Babu (life sentence).
