Attorney General Mahbubey Alam will be buried at the Shaheed Buddhijibi Cemetery in Mirpur after Janazah at the Supreme Court at 11 am on Monday. His body was taken to his residence on Minto Road this morning.
Mahbubey Alam died at 6:24 p.m. Sunday while receiving treatment at CMH. The Minister of Justice expressed deep sorrow and regret over the death of the Attorney General and prayed for the forgiveness of his soul.
Earlier on Sunday, Supreme Court attorney Sheikh Rezaul Haque, son-in-law of Attorney General Mahbubey Alam’s daughter, told media that the Attorney General felt a fever on the night of September 3. The next morning, September 4, he was diagnosed with coronavirus. When his physical condition deteriorated, he was admitted to CMH the same day on the advice of doctors. After that, his physical condition remained stable until September 16. However, he was rushed to the ICU after suffering a heart attack on the morning of 18 September. His consciousness was normal, but his heart did not function normally. However, as of September 19, his physical condition began to improve. On September 20, his corona report was negative. But since the morning of September 21, the lungs have not worked properly. The situation becomes critical.
Family life
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam was born on February 1, 1949 into an aristocratic Muslim family in the village of Mouchamandra in Haldia Union of Louhjong Upazila in Munshiganj. Mahbubey Alam is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. His son is a journalist and his daughter is a Supreme Court attorney.
Education
Mahbubey Alam began his education at the Kazir Pagla Institution. He passed SSC from Armanitola Government High School in Dhaka in 1973 and HSC from Dhaka College in 1985. He graduated (with honors) in Political Science from Dhaka University in 1986 and obtained a Master’s in Public Administration in 1989. He obtained an LLB degree from Dhaka City Law College in 1972. In 1969, he completed a Diploma in International Law and Parliamentary Procedure from the Institute of Constitutional and Parliamentary Studies in New Delhi, India.
Career
The veteran lawyer began teaching at Suhrawardy College in Dhaka in 1982. He continued teaching in the night department until 1970. He began working as a lawyer in the Dhaka Court of Justice in 1973 and in the High Court in 1985. In 1970, he He became a lawyer in the Appellate Division. He entered the Supreme Court in 1997 as a senior attorney. He was appointed as the 13th Attorney General of the country in 2009. He remained in that position until the last day of his life. Prior to that, Mahbubey Alam also served as Additional Attorney General from 1996 to 2001.
Mahbubey Alam was elected to the Bangladesh Bar Council in 2004. In 2005-06, he was elected President of the Supreme Court Bar Association. Prior to that, he was Secretary General of the Supreme Court Bar Association in 1993-94.
Political life
Mahbubey Alam participated in the educational movement in 1972. In 1973, he became the general secretary of the Dhaka College Chhatra League. He participated in the six-point movement in 1966 and in the mass anti-Ayub movement in 1969 as an active activist in the Chhatra League. He campaigned for the Awami League candidate in the 1970 general election. In Bangabandhu’s historic speech on March 7, 1971, Ramna marched through the racetrack. During the liberation war he stayed in the house of his people. During the liberation war he helped freedom fighters in various ways from the village. In 1986, the Awami League presidential candidate MAG Osmani represented M Korban Ali and defender Sirajul Islam Khan. The last time he campaigned in his constituency was on December 30, 2016. However, he was not nominated at the last minute.
