For the longest time in the history of Bangladesh, Mahbubey Alam was the state’s legal director.
He was 61 years old. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
Mahbubey Alam was admitted to Dhaka CMH on September 4 with a fever. There, the sample test detected his coronavirus infection.
He was transferred to the ICU on September 18 after his condition worsened on September 18.
However, Justice Minister Anisul Haque said that the latest coronavirus infection test was negative.
Mahbubey Alam faces journalists after a verdict in a war crimes case.
Mahbubey Alam was appointed Attorney General in 2009. He then held that position until his death. He was also president of the Bangladesh Bar Association.
As Attorney General, Mahbubey Alam played an important role in the trial for crimes against humanity at the Supreme Court in 1971.
He also dealt with the Fifth, Seventh, Thirteenth and Sixteenth Amendment cases to the Constitution.
Mahbubey Alam was also involved in the murder case of the Father of the Bangabandhu Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He was the chief prosecutor in the BDR mutiny murder case.
The President and Prime Minister have recalled their role.
In his message of condolence, President Abdul Hamid said: “Mahbubey Alam has shown extraordinary ability in handling murder cases and crimes against humanity in Bangabandhu. He was a front-line fighter in establishing the rule of law. “
In her message of condolence, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said: “As a renowned lawyer, he has played a very efficient role in many legal matters of national importance and has always been involved in the legal profession, which will be followed.”
He was elected president of the Bar Association of the Supreme Court for one term and secretary for another term.
Mahbubey Alam was born on February 16, 1949 in the village of Mouchamandra in Louhjong upazila de Munshiganj.
He obtained his honors degree in Political Science from Dhaka University in 1986 and his degree in Public Administration in 1989. He obtained an LLB degree from Dhaka University in 1972.
Mahbubey Alam, who was involved in the left-wing movement in his student life, later served as vice president of the Bangladesh Youth Union.
After the fall of the Soviet Union, after the split in the Communist Party of Bangladesh, Mahbubey Alam left politics and became fully active in the legal profession.
However, he joined the Bangladesh Bar Association in 1973 and became a member of the Dhaka Bar Association.
Mahbubey Alam was allowed to practice law in the Superior Court Division of the Supreme Court in 1975 and in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court in 1980. In 1997, he was inducted as lead counsel in the Appeals Division.
In 1993-94, he was elected secretary of the Bar of the Supreme Court.
When the Awami League was in power, Mahbubey Alam served as Additional Attorney General from November 15, 1996 to October 4, 2001.
Mahbubey Alam was president of the Supreme Court Bar Association before the state of emergency was declared in the country in 2008.
After Sheikh Hasina’s arrest during the army-controlled government, many of the top lawyers backed down, but Mahbubey Alam stood firm in favor of the Awami League president.
Apparently, this is why Sheikh Hasina trusted him. After the Awami League came to power, Mahbubey Alam was appointed State Counsel on January 13, 2009. He served for 11 consecutive years.
Mahbubey Alam wanted to be the Awami League candidate from his Munshiganj birthplace in the last parliamentary elections. However, he was asked to continue as Attorney General without running for office.

Mahbubey Alam received his Diploma in Constitutional Law and Parliamentary Institutions and Procedures in 1979 from the Institute for Constitutional and Parliamentary Studies, New Delhi, India.
Known as a travel enthusiast, the attorney has traveled to many countries, including India, Sri Lanka, France, the Netherlands, the United States, Egypt, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea, and Tanzania, to attend various seminars and international symposiums at home and abroad.
Binta Mahbub, wife of Mahbubey Alam, a special fan of Rabindra Sahitya, is a painter. Between her two children, her son Sumon Mahbub has been in journalism for a long time, while her daughter Shishir Kona is in the legal profession.
