Chuadanga: Demonstrations and human chains have been held in Chuadanga to protest the torture of a bride in the name of sanctifying her by sprinkling Bengali wine on her body.
The Chuadanga branch of the Bangladesh Joybhim Youth and Students Federation conducted a human chain program in front of the fish market in Chuadanga municipal area on Saturday (April 3) at noon.
Habibi Zahir Raihan, Secretary General of Bangladesh Udichi Shilpi Gosthi Chuadanga Branch, Prosenjit Das Malay, President of Bangladesh Joybhim Student-Youth Federation Chuadanga Branch, Secretary General Hemanta Das and others spoke on the occasion.
In the human chain, they said that the torture inflicted on the bride and her family under the pretext of marrying in a civilized society was illegal and a violation of human rights. The incident is also humiliating and embarrassing for all women. After investigating the matter, the speakers demanded immediate legal action against the defendants.
It is known that a couple of months ago, Hridoy Dom, son of the late Biru Dom from the Satgari area of Chuadanga, married Rita Bashphond, daughter of Kalicharan from the Mathabhanga Bridge area in Barabazar. The Dom socialists staged a lawsuit claiming that the Dom community was born after marrying the daughter of the Bashphond community as the Dom’s son. At around 9pm on March 23, Bengali wine was sprayed on the body of a community bride Dom in front of the public, saying that it was a matter of sanctity when conducting a trial in the fish market area of the city of Chuadanga. . The leaders of the Dom community ordered the torture to take place for fear of being locked in a cell.
Meanwhile, leaders of the Chuadanga branch of the Bangladesh Joybhim Student and Youth Federation filed a written complaint with the Chuadanga Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police on Thursday on behalf of the victim’s family seeking punishment for the accused.
