The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) released Jahangir Alam, coordinator of the Ghoraghat Upazila Juba League in Dinajpur, after questioning him about the attack on Upazila Nirbahi (UNO) officer Wahida Khanam and his father, freedom fighter Omar Ali .
Following the incident, the Hakimpur, Birampur and Ghoraghat Police Stations in Dinajpur and a team from RAB Rangpur-13 carried out a joint operation and arrested Jahangir Alam at his home on Friday morning. At the same time, Asadul Islam, a member of the Upazila Juba League, was arrested at his sister’s home in the Kaliganj area of Hili. Both were expelled by the central committee of the organization in the afternoon.
RAB-13 captain Reza Ferdous Ahmed told a news conference in Rangpur on Friday night that Jahangir had been released.
When asked how many people have been arrested in connection with the attack on the UN, Reza Ferdous Ahmed said: “So far, three people have been arrested in the legal process. The detention is a detailed matter, we have not detained anyone else. So far we have brought a total of six people for questioning. Just like we brought Jahangir, he left after speaking. We have freed him. ‘
At the time, a journalist asked: ‘Jahangir has a political identity. He has also been expelled from the organization. Did you bring it for no reason?
In response to that question, RAB officer Reza Ferdous Ahmed said: ‘No, I didn’t bring it for no reason. We had professional or intelligence information on Jahangir, so we brought him up. We have conducted our activities on the basis of certain specific intelligence information. We have taken it as we should have taken it, we have not taken it as we should not have taken it.
The RAB captain further said: “However, our investigation of this shadow is not over now. It is a continuous process. We can bring a few more for questioning. Those we catch as suspects will be monitored.
Reza Ferdous Ahmed said: ‘The main defendant in the case. We interrogated Asadul Haque extensively and at one stage of the questioning he confessed to his own involvement in this heinous incident. And in this case he claims that Md. Nabirul Islam and Shri Santu Kumar Biswas were associated with him.
According to Asadul, this is an incident staged with the intention of robbing. Whose original plan was Nabirul, ‘added the RAB official.
Last Wednesday, around 2.30 pm, a group of criminals climbed the stairs and entered the official residence of UNO Wahida Khanam. They broke the fan in the house and entered the house and started beating Wahida Khanam with a hammer. When her father, who was in the next room, heard UNO’s screams and tried to save her, the malefactors also wounded her. Later, other residents of the neighborhood heard her screams and reported to the police. They were admitted to Rangpur Community Medical College Hospital with serious injuries. Later, when the situation deteriorated, Wahida Khanam was transferred to Dhaka on Thursday.
Waheeda Khanam’s surgery was completed Thursday night. Her wisdom has finally returned. She also spoke with her husband. Doctors said he was under observation for 72 hours. She’s not safe yet. However, doctors at the National Institute of Neuroscience and the hospital are optimistic about her recovery.
A total of three people, including Asadul, have been arrested in the incident. The other two are the painter Md. Nabirul Islam and Santu Kumar Biswas. Nabirul Islam worked as a painter opposite Ghoraghat Upazila Parishad.
