Rangpur Range DIG Devdas Bhattacharya has claimed that Asadul Haque, who was arrested in connection with the attack on Ghoraghat officer Upazila Nirbahi (UNO) Wahida Khanam and his father Omar Ali Sheikh after entering the government residence, was not involved in the incident.
DIG Devdas Bhattacharya held a press conference at the Dinajpur Police Superintendent’s office on Saturday. At this time, he highlighted the progress of his research.
DIG Devdas said the ladder and hammer used in the attack on UNO had been seized. We have questioned several people in this case. We asked those we suspected. The defendant named Rabiul, whom we have arrested, has confessed to being involved in the incident. At the same time, based on the information provided by him, we have captured several clues. We have matched the defendant and the evidence with the CCTV footage collected. After his arrest, we turned him over to court and sent him in for questioning. I will now question him at length and try to reveal the details of the incident.
He said a hammer was recovered from the pool of Ghoraghat Upazila Parishad after raiding Rabiul at night. He has admitted to being involved in the incident. Rabiul will be detained and interrogated to find out what his motives were.
He said at the time that Asadul, who had been previously detained, was not involved in the incident. It will be investigated whether someone else is involved in the incident or the cause of the incident.
Rabiul was presented in court on Saturday afternoon and detained for one day, said Imam Zafar, DB OC district.
The criminals broke the fan of the government residence at Ghoraghat in Dinajpur around 3 pm on September 2, entered the house and attacked UNO Wahida Khanam and her father, the freedom fighter, Omar Ali Sheikh. The next day, Waheeda was airlifted from the Rangpur Community Hospital in critical condition to the National Neuroscience Institute and Hospital in Agargaon. He is currently in treatment there.
