A mobile court was attacked during an offensive against illegal sand mining in the Someshwari River in Durgapur upazila of Netrokona. The incident took place in the Devthail area of Balughat No. 1 of the river on Wednesday. Five people, including three policemen, were injured in the incident.
The injured are Durgapur (SI) Police Deputy Inspector Rokon Uddin, a member of the police. Rubel Mia, Md. Khalil, Upazila Land Office, two office assistants. Ershadul Islam and Md. Islam nazrul.
According to administration sources, the local influential clique was illegally mining sand with the help of a dredge in sand pit No. 1 from the Someshwari River without concern for the environment. The mobile court raided the scene around 3.45 p.m. Wednesday following complaints from locals. At that time, sand traders, workers, and people involved in the dredges attacked the mobile yard with sticks and bricks. Upon receiving the news, members of UNO, OC, BGB and Ansar rushed to the scene and the attackers fled. During the operation at least 15 dredges broke.
The operation was led by Narayan Chandra Barman, executive magistrate of the district administration. Deputy Commissioner Kazi said. By order of Abdur Rahman, a mobile court operation was carried out there. At that time they were attacked with sticks and bricks. The attackers also destroyed a car. Two aides from the land office and three policemen were injured in the incident.
