Attack on attorney enrollment testing center, arrest 12

Dhaka: There has been a terrorist attack on the written evidence center for the registration of lawyers. So far, 12 people have been arrested in this incident.

On Saturday (December 19), a group of terrorists entered the Mohammadpur Government College and School Center and attacked it, despite testing at nine centers in the capital. They tore up the books of the examinees and forced them to leave the center. The boycott also took place at the Laxmibazar Mahanagar Mahila College in Old Dhaka.

Students who participated in the test at the two centers said the four-hour written test began at 9 a.m. Half an hour after the start of the exam, some students left the Mahanagar Mahila University Center in Laxmibazar, claiming that the issue had become difficult. At that point, the boycotters forced others to leave. After the exam lasted about an hour, a group of terrorists entered the Mohammadpur center, tore up the students’ books, and forcibly expelled them from the center.

Farhad Ahmed Bhuiyan, a student from Jahangirnagar University, who sat for the exam at the Mohammadpur Center, said that a group of 20-25 people walked through the door of the university, entered and tore our books.

Rashed Akand, a Kushtia Islamic University student who took the exam at the same center, said that although the question was difficult, he was taking the exam as well as he was prepared. Suddenly a group of people came and took us out. Subsequently, the exam was postponed and the central secretary took our book.

Witnesses said that a group of candidates was already agitating to cancel the written test of the Bar Association and demand the certificate only by oral test. The students who participated in the test said they carried out the attack.
They expressed their disgust that the test was conducted without proper security measures.

The Mohammadpur Government College and School examination was postponed due to the attack on the center.

When asked about it, Mokhlesur Rahman Badal, chairman of the Legal Aid and Human Rights Committee of the Bar Association, told Bangladesh that the examinations would be conducted in nine centers. There has been a little problem in Mohammadpur. Therefore, the examination of that center has been postponed. However, the rest of the test has been completed successfully.

Mokhlesur Rahman Badal also said that the examination of students at the suspended center will be held later. However, he stated that the examination was performed correctly at the Laxmibazar center.

Mrityunjay Dey, Mohammadpur Area Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of DMP’s Tejgaon Division, confirmed the arrest to banglanews. He damaged a Bar Council car and damaged some windows at the university.

So far, 12 people have been arrested in this incident. However, the situation is now normal. He also said that legal action will be taken in this regard.

To enroll in a lawyer, one has to work as an apprentice for six months with a lawyer with 10 years of experience in the first six months to obtain a bachelor’s or bachelor’s degree (honors) in law. Then the Bar Association gave him the record for the exam. After receiving the registration, you must participate in the exam in three stages according to the time limit announced by the city council. Only those who have passed the MCQ written and oral examinations can handle the case as attorneys in the lower court.

The written test for the second phase was to be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in 9 centers in the capital. Centers: Azimpur Government Girls’ School and College, Sheikh Borhan Uddin Graduate College, Shaheed Suhrawardy Government College, Mohammadpur Women’s College. Mohammadpur Central College, Central Women’s College, BCSIR High School, Government Mohammadpur Model School and College, and Dhaka Metropolitan Women’s College. Approximately 13,000 students who passed the MCQ exam participated in the written exam.

The last attorney enrollment exam was held in 2016. Then the test was supposed to take place on September 26, 2020. However, due to the Corona epidemic, the written test for inclusion was postponed of lawyers.
