Dhaka: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam took a boat to the canal to inform everyone about the canal’s rescue and recovery.
During this time he also participated in cleaning the canal with the cleaning workers.
He asked the locals not to dump used items and garbage in the canal.
On Wednesday (October 7), DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam visited the cleaning activities of the Godabari canal in Mirpur, the capital. At one stage of the inspection, he himself went down the canal with the boat. He got on the boat and addressed the canal cleaning workers some 200 meters away.
At this time he also participated in cleaning with the instrument. He clapped the cleaning staff on the back. In addition to talking to them to raise awareness among the locals. He asked them not to litter the canal.
Earlier, while briefing reporters, Atiq said: “Is this canal for throwing garbage and other things from the inhabitants of the city?” Or by the flow of water. Abroad we see water transported by canals. Sewage will fall into this channel, rainwater will fall. Then they will go to the river. But we fill this channel with mattress, TV, fridge, pillow, coconut shell. So how will the channels work?
The DNCC mayor urged the townspeople around each canal to take over the canal.
“I would tell the townspeople to come forward,” he said. Someone is responsible for a 100-yard gutter so no trash falls into the gutter on their part That part will not be busy. In this way the channel will not be occupied and the rescued channel will remain clean.
