Atiq kept his promise to the people

Dhaka: The mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), Atiqul Islam, heard the problems of the inhabitants of the city under the title “The mayor faces the people.” After learning of the problem of illegally installed ‘gates’ on various roads, including the main city highway, the mayor promised to remove them.

He kept his promise by removing several gates in the Mirpur area.

On Tuesday (December 22) morning, the corporation launched an operation to remove illegal gates in Zone-4 of the DNCC. DNCC Executive Magistrate Akram Sakapi Ibn Sajjad led the operation.

During the operation, the illegal gates on the east and west sides of Mirpur-10 to the main road No. 12 were removed. At the time of writing, a total of five gates have been demolished, including Mirpur 11 and 11: 30. Meanwhile, representatives from Dakshin Pallabi Bari and the Apartment Owners Association came to protest against the demolition of the gate adjacent to the Setara Tower at Mirpur No. 11.5.

Harun Mollah, who identified himself as the brother of local MP Ilias Uddin Mollah, claimed that the gate was installed with the permission of the city corporation. At that time, when the executive magistrate contested seeing the permit, the association’s representatives were unable to show any documents.

Regarding the removal of the door, Executive Magistrate Akram Sakapi told banglanews that the mayor had come to live in front of the crowd and promised that there would be no obstruction. City Corporation roads will be open to the public. Today’s campaign is part of that. So far five doors have been vacated. Financial penalties have been imposed in some places. Our campaign will continue until 4pm. We will be able to give full updates at the end of the campaign.

Regarding the re-gate after the eviction, Akram said: “If someone does that again, legal action will be taken and a case will be started.” As you know, according to article 133 of the Criminal Procedure Code, if an executive magistrate in an area below a district magistrate believes that there is an obstruction in front of the road or that there is public nuisance, he can remove it with a written order. It is the competence of the District Magistrate, competence of the Executive Magistrate.

Meanwhile, the locals applauded the removal of these doors. Arnab Mahmud, a resident of the Pallabi area, said the door is closed. It’s open when someone from the homeowners association goes. We ordinary people who live here or travel the roads in this area cannot use this gate. The door does not open unless the people of the association are “happy” when they go by rickshaw or car. We benefit from the eviction of this gate. Thanks to the City Corporation, thanks to the Mayor.

DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam faced several questions from journalists on Facebook Live on December 1. At the time, Banglanews staff correspondent Shaon Solaiman asked the mayor about the illegal gate in the area and he promised to remove it.
