The two institutions in Bogra’s Gabtali upazila were named after the founder of BNP and former military ruler Ziaur Rahman.
The Department of Secondary and Higher Education of the Ministry of Education changed the names of the two schools in the list of educational institutions registered with the MPO. The High Court has deferred that decision for six months.
The decision to change the name was challenged by Judge JBM Hasan and Judge Md. The Khairul Alam High Court approved the order on Monday.
The court has issued a rule with that. The rule seeks to know why the decision to change the names of the two schools should not be declared ‘illegal and outside legal jurisdiction’.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Education, the Director General of the Department of Education, the Inspector of the Rajshahi Board of Education, the District Education Officer and other stakeholders have been asked to respond to the standard within the next four weeks.
Attorney Ruhul Quddus Kajal appeared for the writ petition. The lawyer was with him. Akhtar Rasul Murad and Abdullahil Maruf Fahim.
Assistant Attorney General Tushar Kanti Roy and Assistant Attorney General Farhana Parveen Bithi represented the state.
Lawyer Ruhul Quddus Kajal later told reporters: “The two schools were renamed. The Superior Court has postponed the decision to change the name. As a result, the name under which the two schools were established remains the same. ”
Gabtali Shaheed Zia High School was established in 1996 in Gabtali, Bogra and Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Girls High School was established in 2000. Two schools had that name. The two schools changed their names when the MPO was passed last year.

Sukhanpur Bandar Girls High School is at number 59 in the list of those 991 secondary education institutions, whose EIN number is 119489. And at number 109 is the name ‘Gabtali Purbapara High School’, whose EIN number is 11948.
The list was questioned by the chairman of the steering committee of the two schools. Aminul Haque and Morshed Liton filed two writ motions in Superior Court.
The name of the educational institution number 119489 on the MPO list is said to be ‘Sukhanpur Bandar Girls High School’, but it was established in 2000 as ‘Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Girls High School’.
Although the name of educational institution number 11948 was ‘Gabtali Purbapara High School’, it was established in 1998 as ‘Gabtali Shaheed Zia High School’.
The order petition alleges that changing the name of the educational institution in this way “without any reason” is “illegal and outside the legal authority.”
