At least 10 civilians and four members of the military have been killed in clashes between Indian and Pakistani forces on the border with Kashmir.

Reuters on Friday cited officials from the two countries who reported the deadliest shootings of the year.

Officials in Srinagar and New Delhi said Indian troops opened fire as troops entered northern Kashmir from Pakistan through the Line of Control (LoC).

However, the Pakistani military declined to comment.

Indian officials said the bombing killed six civilians, three soldiers and a border guard.

Pakistani officials say four civilians were killed.

Indian officials, however, say there have been casualties among members of Pakistan’s security forces.

Both India and Pakistan are demanding full rights to Kashmir. Although Delhi has long accused Pakistan of creating tension in the region, Pakistan has repeatedly denied it.

Indian and Pakistani troops regularly fire in mountainous border areas. However, Indian officials said Friday’s bombing was “horrible.”

Both sides have blamed the bombings in civilian areas there.

Syed Shahid Qadri, an official in Pakistani-controlled Kashmir, said: “As usual, they attacked civilian areas without provocation. One woman was killed and 26 others were injured.

The shelling continued from Friday morning into the evening, authorities said.

Mukhtar Ahmed, a Uri official in Indian-controlled Kashmir, said there was panic in the area near the border after hearing loud explosions near the border.

“Several families have fled the area and taken refuge in Uri,” he said.

According to official figures, more than 40 civilians from the two countries have been killed in shootouts between Indian and Pakistani forces this year.
