Retired Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan was shot dead by police in Cox’s Bazar. The committee headed by Chittagong Divisional Additional Commissioner Mizanur Rahman, head of the investigation committee, visited the Interior Ministry on Monday afternoon and presented the report to the minister.
Earlier today, at 11:40 am, the members of the investigation committee went to the Ministry of the Interior. Later, after the arrival of the Minister of the Interior, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, the head of the committee gave him the report of the investigation.
The other members of the four-member committee are Lieutenant Colonel SM Sajjad Hossain, Representative of the Armed Forces Division, Zakir Hossain Khan, Additional Deputy Inspector General of Bangladesh Police and Mohammad Shajahan Ali, Additional District Magistrate of the Administration from the Cox’s Bazar district.
A 58-page attachment was also sent at this time along with the original 60-page report. The committee has made 13 recommendations in the report to avoid such incidents in the future.
Chittagong Division Additional Commissioner Mizanur Rahman, who heads the investigation committee, said: “The committee took their remarks after speaking with six people involved in the incident while investigating the death of Major (retd) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan “. The report has been finalized by consensus of all the members of the commission after verifying, classifying and analyzing these statements and the data obtained. The report was filed 35 days after the incident.
Earlier, Mizanur Rahman told reporters: “Apart from the investigative activities of our committee, a murder case has been brought in court for this incident.” The case is currently pending. The case investigation officer is conducting the investigation of the incident in the legal process. The court will decide who is guilty of this murder. The court also has the power to punish those responsible. The court has the discretion to use our committee’s investigation report if it deems it necessary. The investigation report has been written in its entirety. The report contains 60 pages of research data. With the report, 13 recommendations have been made on what to do to prevent such incidents from happening again in the future.
Previously, an investigative committee was formed on August 2. The committee began its activities on August 3. The ministry set seven business days, that is, August 10, for the presentation of the report to the committee. Then, for the first time, the committee’s mandate was extended until August 23. Subsequently, at the request of the commission, the deadline was again extended to August 31.
The committee’s mandate was extended until September 6, as one of the defendants, Teknaf Police Officer in Charge (CO), Pradeep Kumar Das, was unable to accept their statement. On September 2, the committee heard Pradeep Kumar Das at the Cox’s Bazar District Jail. After that, the committee finished preparing the investigation report. And the on-time shipping process is underway.
Retired Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan was shot dead by Police Officer Liaquat Ali at the Shamlapur checkpoint at Baharchhara Union on Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive on July 31 at around 10:30 pm. After the incident, the police filed two cases at the Teknaf Police Station. And Ramu filed a case at the police station.
Later, on August 5, Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, older sister of Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan, filed a murder case in the Cox’s Bazar Superior Magistrates Court. Nine people were charged with this. Defendants are dismissed OC from Teknaf Police Station Pradeep Kumar Das, Retired Inspector from Teknaf Baharchhara Police Station Shamlapur Liaquat Ali, Deputy Inspector (SI) Nandadulal Rakshit, Deputy Inspector (ASI) Liton Mia, Police Officer Maryland. The RAB has begun questioning four members of the police in custody and three witnesses in the case brought up by the police since last Friday.
