Mind Aid Hospital in Adabar in the capital was illegally established without skilled labor and without the necessary emergency services. Patients were monitored by incompetent drivers, cooks, receptionists, and doormen. The patients were even physically abused in the name of medical treatment.
Following this, Senior Deputy Superintendent of Police (ASP) Anisul Karim Shipon, who had come for treatment for a mental illness, was taken to the second floor of the hospital for smoking. There, in the ‘Aggressive Patient Management Room’, the defendant forcibly pushed him and tied his hands behind his back. They brutally killed Anisul Karim by hitting her on the neck, head, back and other parts of her body.
This information has emerged in the preventive interrogation of the accused in the case presented in this incident, the confessional statements of some of them and the police investigation report.
After the November 9 incident, Anisul’s father, Bir Muktijoddha Md. Faizuddin Ahmed filed a murder case charging 15 people. 13 of them have been arrested.
They are: Mind Aid Hospital Marketing Manager Arif Mahmud Joy, Director Fatema Khatun Moyna, Muhammad Niaz Marshed, Coordinator Redwan Sabbir, Chef de Cuisine Md. Masood, Wardboy Jobayer Hossain, Pharmacist. Tanvir Hasan, Wardboy said. Tanim Mollah, Sajib Chowdhury, Asim Chandra Pal, Maryland. Liton Ahmed, Md. Among the defendants arrested, Masud, Asim, Arif Mahmud, Sajeeb Chowdhury, Tanvir Hasan and Tanim Mollah pleaded guilty to murder and testified in the Main Metropolitan Magistrates Court of Dhaka.
In their statement, they said that on November 9, Assistant Chief Superintendent of Police (ASP) Anisul Karim Shipon was taken to the second floor of Mind Aid Hospital for smoking. There he was forcibly admitted to the Aggressive Management Room. The defendant took him into the room, laid him on his back and tied his hands behind his back. He mentioned in the report that the defendant Mamun is an assistant doctor who was recruited into the health cadre through the 26th BCS of the National Institute of Mental Health and Hospital. The victim Anisul along with his relatives arrived at the National Institute of Psychiatry and Hospital on November 9 to receive treatment. He sent Anisul to Mind Aid Hospital and explained that there is no advanced treatment system in the government hospital. Dr. Mamun sees patients regularly at Mind Aid Hospital. Despite being an attending physician, he used to send patients from government hospitals to private and illegally operated Mind Aid hospitals just to make money.
The report further stated that Anisul was brutally beaten to death by some Mind Aid Hospital employees, including the director, the cook, the receptionist and the doorman. Whose video was disseminated throughout the country through the media. In the confessional statement of the defendants arrested in the case, the question of the defendant’s involvement in the incident arose. When asked, they said that Dr. Mamun sent patients to Mind Aid Hospital in addition to government work. He was given a commission of 20 percent of the total hospital bill for sending the patient.
During questioning, the defendant provided important information about the status of the fugitive defendant. The investigation of the case is ongoing and the information obtained from the defendants is being resolved, the investigating officer said in the report.
Mind Aid is established without service materials
On the other hand, the director of the Fatema hospital Khatun Maina was in preventive detention for four days in the case. During pre-trial interrogation, he admitted: “The hospital was illegally established without trained personnel and the necessary emergency service team. Patients were monitored by incompetent drivers, cooks, receptionists, and doormen. The patients suffered physical abuse in the name of medical treatment. Anisul Karim has been beaten to death in the name of medical treatment.
In the report delivered to the court after questioning him in preventive detention, the investigator of the case mentioned that the defendant Fatema Khatun Moyna owns the Mind Aid Hospital. They established the hospital illegally without the approval of the Department of Health or any of the agencies involved in the hospital. The hospital has been created to provide emergency services without ambulance, oxygen, ICU, ECG machine and other emergency equipment. The hospital does not have any equipment to provide emergency medical care. The hospital was in the process of recruiting skilled labor, Fatema Khatun Moyna said.
Mind Aid Hospital coordinator Redwan Sajeeb, Wardboy Liton, Jobayer Hossain Sujan and Saiful Islam Palash were sent to pre-trial detention for seven days and another report was presented to the court. He mentioned in the report that the defendant had provided important information in police custody. Furthermore, his involvement has been revealed in the voluntary confessional statements of the six defendants in court. A review of the hospital’s CCTV footage revealed the defendant’s involvement. The accused had beaten Anisul Karim to death on 9 November on instructions from the hospital authorities for the same purpose. The information provided by the accused is being reviewed and classified.
In this regard, Anisul Karim Shipon’s father said the heroic freedom fighter. Faizuddin Ahmed said: ‘My only resource was the boat. I took him to Mind Aid Hospital for treatment. But the hospitalization turned out to be a nightmare for me. The hospital staff killed my son and took my belongings. Now I am lost in Putrasho. I want exemplary punishment for those who killed my son. ‘
The investigating officer on the case, Adabar Police Station Inspector (Operations) Farooq Mollah told Jago News: “The investigation into the murder case of senior ASP official Anisul Karim Shipon is in full swing. So far 13 people have been arrested. Six people have pleaded guilty to murder and have testified in court. Six people gave important information in preventive detention. One is hospitalized. It is being investigated if anyone else is involved in the incident.
