Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin again touched the landmark. The Indian spinner became the second fastest bowler in the world to take 400 wickets in test cricket. Ashwin marked the milestone by firing Joffra Archer in England’s second inning at Motere on Thursday.
The Indian spinner took 400 plots in just six tests. Muttiah Muralitharan crossed the 400 wicket milestone by playing fewer Trials than he did.
The legendary off-spinner from Sri Lanka set the record in just 62 events. Not only is he the second fastest pitcher in the world, he is also the fourth Indian pitcher to cross the 400 wicket mark.
Prior to this Tamil off-spinner, three more Indians have crossed the 400 wicket mark in test cricket. They are Anil Kumble (619), Kapil Dev (434) and Harbhajan Singh (417). However, they have all played more tests than Ashwin. Not only that, at the same time, Ashwin became the fifth Indian to cross the 600 wicket milestone in international cricket. Previously, Kumble (956), Harbhajan (811), Kapil (7) and Zaheer Khan (610) crowned this milestone.
Ashwin made his Test debut in 2011 against the West Indies in Delhi. The Indian spinner won the Man of the Match award in the first Test, as well as the best award in the series. Not just 400 wickets, Ashwin has taken the fastest 250, 300, 350 wickets in test cricket.
Ashwin took three wickets in the first inning and four in the second inning of the Pink Ball Test. England were eliminated by 112 in the first inning and 61 in the second inning.
