Sujan Khan, father of the murdered girl Sohana Akter, uncle Ripon Khan and his brother-in-law Hasib Sheikh were arrested.
After a one-day questioning on Wednesday, the police were initially involved in the boy’s murder and arrested them in the case that night.
However, the police have not yet clarified why the boy was killed.
Morelganj OC Monirul Islam Police Station said the body of Sohana, 18 days old, was recovered from the pond Wednesday morning and that the girl’s father, Sujan Khan, uncle Ripon Khan and brother-in-law Hasib Sheikh were taken to the police station for questioning.
“After a day of questioning, it appears that they are involved in the murder of baby Sohana. So we have shown these three people arrested overnight in the child murder case.”
The police officer said that the motive for the murder of the girl Sohana will be revealed after further questioning.
Sohana, a 16-day-old newborn, disappeared from her sleeping parents’ home in Gabtala village at the Sadar junction of Morelganj upazila in Bagerhat on Sunday night.
Sohana’s grandfather, Ali Hossain Khan, filed a kidnapping case against unidentified persons under the Prevention of Abuse of Women and Children Act at the Morelganj Police Station on Monday morning.
Police recovered Sohana’s floating body from the pond at Sujan Khan’s home on Wednesday morning, two days after the robbery.
