The Armored Police Battalion (APBN) arrested two people in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a Rohingya girl from a Rohingya camp in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.
The raid took place in the Nayapara registered refugee camp in the Hnila Union of Teknaf Upazila around 10:15 pm on Monday (March 6), said SP Mohammad Tariqul Islam, commander of Cox’s Bazar 17 APBN.
Those arrested are, Maryland from Block B of Teknaf’s Nayapara Registered Refugee Camp. Azimullah’s son, Rahmat Ullah (23) and Sanjida Akhter (35), wife of Rahmat Ullah from Block C of the same camp. Those arrested are related to each other, APBN reported.
According to sources, an eight-year-old Rohingya boy named Shahinur Akhter disappeared from the side of his home in the Nayapara refugee camp in Teknaf on the morning of March 2. Three days after the disappearance, APBN recovered the boy’s mutilated body from the mountainous area adjacent to the camp on the afternoon of March 5. One of the baby’s hands also separated from the body.
SP Tariqul said APBN had received preliminary information about involvement in the kidnapping and murder of a Rohingya child. According to the slain boy’s parents, an APBN team raided the Nayapara registered refugee camp in Teknaf on Monday night. Two people, including a woman, were arrested in connection with the murder of a kidnapped child from a house. Those arrested are familiar to each other.
The detainees have been turned over as defendants in the murder case brought to the Teknaf police station, the official said.
