Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Moha ordered the arrest for any kind of extortion on the road. Shafiqul Islam.
He gave the instructions to the corresponding police deputy commissioners of the DMP traffic department during an exchange of views with the transport owners in the conference room of the DMP headquarters on Thursday (19 November) afternoon.
In addition, the DMP commissioner ordered the unregistered vehicles to be thrown onto the road.
The DMP commissioner said: “If you extort money on the streets, you have to be arrested. You cannot collect toll on the highway. However, service fees may be charged to cover the running costs of employers ‘and workers’ organizations. Drivers must know the law.
Leaders of the Transport Owners Association discussed the next steps to bring order to traffic in the city of Dhaka. Homeowners association leaders called on the police commissioner to investigate the matter, citing the limitations and complexities of the BRTA in issuing driver’s licenses to drivers.
During the meeting, officials from the police traffic department sought the cooperation of the owners in maintaining order of traffic in the metropolis of Dhaka.
The DMP senior officials meeting was attended by leaders of the Transportation Owners Association.
