A court issued arrest warrants for the brother and nephew of former Supreme Court Chief SK Sinha in a case of embezzlement of bank funds. Judge Sheikh Nazmul Alam of Dhaka’s Court of Special Judges-4 issued an arrest warrant for them on Tuesday for failing to testify despite a subpoena.
The two witnesses against whom the arrest warrant has been issued are Surendra Kumar (SK) Sinha’s brother, Narendra Kumar Sinha, and nephew Shankhajit Singh.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam told Prothom Alo that the court issued a subpoena to testify in the case.
Even then, they did not appear in court and testify, so the court has issued an arrest warrant against them in accordance with the law.
Testimony against 12 defendants, including SK Sinha, in the ACC bank embezzlement case is in the final stages. Of the 16 witnesses in the case, 14 have completed their testimony. M Atif Khaled, a senior official in Padma Bank’s legal department, testified in the case today.
ACC prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam said the court had brought charges against 12 people, including former Chief Justice SK Sinha, on August 13. The process of obtaining evidence in the case has reached its final stage. It remains to take the testimony of four people, including the investigating officer.
