At a press conference at the Munshiganj Police Super Office on Wednesday afternoon, police officers gave a moving account of the murder.

Alamjir Hossain, OC of Louhjong Police Station, said it took until morning to catch members of the autorickshaw buy and sell ring after arresting the ‘top killers’ at night.
He said that an autorickshaw seized from Kalma and a knife used in the murder were recovered from the Gowalimandra canal within 12 hours of Tuesday’s murder.
Giving details of the murder, District Police Superintendent Abdul Momen said Rubel and Akram had hired Ashraful’s autorickshaw to go to Lohajang from Baghra in Srinagar last Tuesday night. Along the way, Hanan and Rajen got into a car from the old Bezgaon ghat ferry area in Srinagar.
He said that Hasan Ashraful, who was sitting on the driver’s left side in front of the car, was holding one hand and Rajen, who was sitting on the right side, was holding the other hand.
And Akram, sitting in the back, wrapped a towel around his neck. Then Rubel, who was sitting on his back, stabbed him in the neck. He then pushed her to a secluded spot in Karpasha de Lohajangya, threw her into a bush on the side of the road and fled in an autorickshaw, the SP said.
He added that locals took him to the Louhjong Upazila Health Complex after slitting his throat. There, he regained consciousness and wrote the mobile number of his father-in-law Abdur Razzak with a pen on a sheet of paper, then the relatives were informed on the mobile.
The doctor sent Ashraful to Dhaka when they cut his windpipe. The driver died after being transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the SP said.
Asaduzzaman, Srinagar Circle’s additional police superintendent, said the autorickshaw was sold to Tofazzal in Jatrabari for Tk 40,000 through the Amir Hossain corridor. Tofazzal sells it to Sabuj de Masadgai in Lohajang for 60,000 rupees. That night, Sabuj returned the autorickshaw to Kajal for 60,000 rupees.
Police recovered the hijacked autorickshaw from Kajal’s home in the Kalma village of Lohajang. At the same time, another autorickshaw stolen from Kajal’s home was also recovered.
Asaduzzaman also said that another car sold by Kajal was recovered from Tongibari.
Delwar Hossain, the deceased’s uncle, said that after the autopsy at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Ashraful’s body was taken to the deceased’s home in Shrigar on Wednesday afternoon. Ashraful’s wife, Runa Akhter, hugged her six-year-old daughter Maryam and burst into tears.
He said preparations were underway to bury Ashraful in the Baghra cemetery after Esha prayers on Wednesday.
