Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to hold talks for the first time to end the Nagorno Karabakh war.
Russia provided such information on Friday. However, there are no signs of easing the fierce fighting between the two countries.
Russia’s Foreign Ministry confirmed the details of a meeting between the two countries and said high-ranking diplomats from the two countries were attending the talks in Moscow.
They agreed to sit down for talks Thursday in response to a call from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakarov said that Baku and Yerevan had confirmed their participation in the talks. Preparations are underway in this regard.
But the fierce fighting between the two countries has continued since Thursday night. Officials from Armenia and Azerbaijan said so.
Although the Nagorno-Karabakh region is internationally recognized as the territory of Azerbaijan, it is controlled by the Armenian ethnic group.
In recent decades, France, Russia or the United States have mediated any conflict between the two parties.
