A senior commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned the Arab allies of the United States and Israel that any war in the Middle East would be the worst.
Brigadier General Amir-Ali Hajizadeh, commander of the IRGC’s aerospace division, made the warning in an interview with Lebanese Al-Manar television. He called on Arab countries to review their policies.
“The United States and the Israeli government have failed to establish peace anywhere in the world,” he said. “If something happens here (in the Middle East) and war breaks out, we will not make any difference between the American bases and the host countries.”
Hajizadeh’s comments come as tensions rise between Iran and the United States during the first anniversary of the assassination of Iranian General Qasim Solaimani in a US drone strike. On Wednesday, two B-52 bombers capable of carrying nuclear weapons flew from the United States into the skies and returned to the United States after patrolling the Middle East. The United States has carried out three such provocations near the Iranian border in the past six weeks. Early last week, a nuclear-powered US submarine entered the Persian Gulf.
