Mangsuipru Chowdhury Apu, former chairman of the Khagrachhari District Chhatra League and Deputy General Secretary of the Khagrachhari District Awami League, has been appointed Chairman of the 9th Interim Council of the Khagrachhari Hill District Council, putting an end to all speculation.
The notification was issued on Thursday afternoon (December 10) by presidential order canceling the interim president and the 14-member council formed on March 25, 2015 in a letter signed by Sajal Kanti Banik, Deputy Secretary of the Chittagong Ministry Hill Tracts.
The nomination was made pursuant to the powers conferred by subsection 16-A (4) of the Khagrachhari Hill District Council Act 1979 and the Khagrachhari Hill District Council (Amendment) Act 1996 and subsection 2 (2) of the Khagrachhari Hill District Council (Amendment) Act 2014.

Previously, on March 25, 2015, Khagrachhari District Awami League Vice President Kanjari Chowdhury was appointed chairman and an interim council of the Khagrachhari Hill District Council was formed.
