On the first day of the new year, India gave good news about the corona vaccine. A panel of experts formed by the country’s Union Ministry of Health approved the emergency application of the Oxford-Astragenecar coronavirus vaccine on Friday. As a result, the path to vaccination in Bangladesh has gotten easier this month.
Beximco, a Bangladeshi pharmaceutical company, has signed an agreement with Serum Institute, an Indian subsidiary of Oxford, to develop the vaccine called Covishield. According to him, the serum will give 30 million doses of vaccine to Bangladesh as a priority. The two countries have also reached an agreement with the Seram Institute on immunization at the same time.
After the vaccine was approved in India, Health Services Secretary Abdul Mannan told the media that now there will be no need for a separate approval for vaccination in Bangladesh. He hopes that Bangladesh can receive the vaccine at the end of January.
The Times of India reported late Friday that the emergency clearance was granted by a panel of experts set up by the Union Ministry of Health on Friday. This time around, the center will start the vaccination program from this month after obtaining final clearance from the ‘General Drug Control of India’. The United Kingdom and Argentina have already approved the vaccine urgently.
The pilot vaccination program will start from Saturday in all the states of India as part of the vaccination program. The long-awaited corona vaccine will be executed at the Higher Primary Health Center in Madhyamgram and Dattabad in the state of West Bengal and at the Rural Hospital in Amdanga. Initially, the vaccine will be administered to 25 people. Dry work will start at 9 am.
The vaccine, invented by scientists at the University of Oxford, was approved for use in Britain on December 26 by the Drug Enforcement Administration. This means that the vaccine is safe and effective. Bangladeshi officials also say there are no barriers to using the vaccine in Bangladesh after the UK approves it. Very soon it will be possible to administer this vaccine to the population of Bangladesh.
There have been no clinical trials of this vaccine in Bangladesh. So is it possible to apply it to the human body in Bangladesh now? Scientists say that if a vaccine is approved in the UK, there is no need to run a separate test in Bangladesh. Since the Oxford vaccine was approved in the UK and later in India, it is also possible to give this vaccine in Bangladesh.
Mohammad Shahidullah, head of the government advisory committee on coronavirus, said that any vaccine in Bangladesh needed approval from the drug administration. He said there are three clauses regarding this approval. First, the vaccine can be used in Bangladesh with the approval of the World Health Organization. Second, if a vaccine is approved by the United States Pharmaceutical Authority, a separate approval is not required for it in Bangladesh. According to him, the Pfizer-Bioantech vaccine can also be administered in Bangladesh. Third, if the vaccine is approved in one of the seven countries in Europe, including the UK and Germany, that vaccine can also be given in Bangladesh.
