Dhaka: The Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement has approved the procurement of 50,000 metric tons of cooked rice from India for the 2020-21 fiscal year through international tenders.

The proposal was approved at the 34th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement, chaired by the Minister of Law, Anisul Haque, in the absence of the Minister of Finance, AHM Mustafa Kamal, on Wednesday (December 9).

After the meeting, Additional Cabinet Secretary Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal told reporters online that a total of 14 procurement proposals were presented at today’s procurement-related cabinet meeting, including one proposal on the table. , of which 10 were approved.

The Additional Secretary said that the proposed purchase of 50,000 tons of non-basmati cooked rice under Package II in fiscal year 2020-21 has been approved through international quotes. The recommended bidder is MS Rica Global Impacts Ltd., Mumbai, India.

In elaborating the details of the project, Abu Saleh said that the rice is purchased for 2 crore 2 lakh 18,500 US dollars or 161 crore 44 lakh 44 thousand taka and will cost 34 taka 28 paisa per kg until it reaches the country’s port. The purchase price per ton will be US $ 404.35. This rice will come from India.

Earlier, at the last 33rd procurement cabinet meeting, the committee had approved the proposal to purchase 50,000 tons of cooked non-basmati rice for fiscal year 2020-21 at a cost of Tk 16 crore 36 lakh 40 thousand through international quotations. . At that time the price of rice was 35 rupees 26 paise per kg and the purchase price per ton will be 418 US dollars. The recommended bidder is MSPK AgriLink Pvt. Ltd., Birbhum, West Bengal, India.
