Another case has been recorded in connection with the death of five people when a speedboat sank in the Agunmukha River in Rangabali upazila of Patuakhali.
Krishi Bank Baherchar branch manager Delwar Hossain, who survived the accident Sunday night, filed the case against seven people at the Rangabali police station.
Previously, traffic inspector of the Patuakhali river port. Zahirul Islam filed a case against the speedboat driver and owner in the Marine Court on Saturday afternoon.
Although the manager of Krishi Bank survived the accident, five passengers, including his colleague (Krishi Bank Baherchar branch inspector) Mostafizur Rahman, died. The lawsuits were filed on charges of carrying additional passengers in hostile weather and reckless speedboats in defiance of authorities’ restrictions.
Abul Hossain Matubbar speedboat driver and Rangabali Koralia speedboat dock manager Bashir Uddin and seven other people have been charged in the case brought by the Krishi Bank manager.
Rangabali Police Station OC Ali Ahmed said: “Efforts are being made to arrest the accused in this case. In the same incident, a case was filed against the operator and driver of the speedboat in the Navy Court on Saturday. BIWT’s Patuakhali River Port Traffic Inspector. Zahirul Islam presented the case as a plaintiff.
The speedboat, which left Koralia for Galachipar Panpatti at around 5.30pm on Thursday, fell into the Agunmukha River due to strong waves and sank along with 18 passengers and a driver. Although 13 people, including the driver, were able to swim to shore, 5 people are missing. Later on Saturday morning, the bodies of five missing people were found floating in the river.
