A new date has been announced for the general elections of the Sreepur Municipality in Gazipur. The Electoral Commission had postponed the election for the mayor position only due to the death of the candidate nominated by the BNP. The vote was scheduled for December 28. The new date is January 17, 2021.
Today, Monday, the Secretariat of the Electoral Commission Directorate of Elections -2 Branch Secretary. A circular signed by Atiyar Rahman announced new dates for the postponement of mayor and other positions. According to the call, the vote for the positions of mayor, councilor and reserved councilor will take place on January 18, 2021. According to the notification, the last date for the presentation of candidacies for the suspended position (mayor) is December 23. Nominations will be selected on December 24. The candidacy can be withdrawn until December 31. Subsequently, on January 17, 2021, a one-day vote will be held.
According to the notification, only new nominations can be submitted for the office of mayor. Those who have already submitted nominations do not need to submit new nominations. Other than this, there is no opportunity to submit new nominations for the councilor and reserved councilor positions. Voting will be done through the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).
