A Dhaka court granted bail to five people, including Anisul Haque, Deputy Secretary of Prothom Alo, in the case of Naimul Abrar, 15, a ninth-grader at Dhaka Residential Model College.

They surrendered at the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court Mohammad Jasim on Thursday and applied for bail through a lawyer.

After the hearing, the judge granted bail to each of them with a bail of 5,000 Tk.

In addition to Anisul Haque, the other defendants are Mahitul Alam, Prothom Alo’s Senior Assistant Editor, Kabir Bakul, Prothom Alo’s Head of Events and Activation, Shahparan Tushar, Executive, and Shubhashish Pramanik, Executive.

Earlier on Wednesday, the court ordered the seizure of the belongings of five people, including Kishore Alo editor Anisul Haque, in the case of the Abrar schoolboy’s murder. It was also reported that there is no legal impediment to his arrest since the arrest warrant has been issued and his bail has expired.

On November 1 of last year, the anniversary of the founding of Prothom Alo’s associate publication ‘Kishore Alo’ was celebrated on the campus of Dhaka Residential Model College. Student Naimul Abrar’s relief was evident in the power connection for the event. He was later transferred to Universal Medical College Hospital in Mohakhali, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Then, on November 8, Naimul Abrar’s father, Mojibur Rahman, presented a case in court. The court learned of the complaint and ordered the Mohammadpur Police Station to investigate and submit a report. In view of this incident, the body of student Naimul Abrar was removed from the grave and an autopsy was performed by order of the court.

On 17 January, the investigating officer of the case and Inspector (Investigation) of the Mohammadpur Police Station Abdul Alim presented the investigation report of the case and issued arrest warrants for 10 defendants, including the editor of Kishore Alo and the editor by Prothom Alo, Matiur Rahman, and Kishore Alo’s editor, Anisul Haque. Among them, the High Court granted a four-week advance bond to Prothom Alo’s editor, Matiur Rahman, on January 20. At the same time, Prothom Alo’s associate editor and Kishore Alo’s editor Anisul Haque and five others were ordered not to be arrested or harassed until the charge sheet was taken into account. The other four are Mahitul Alam, Senior Associate Editor at Kishore Alo, Kabir Bakul, Head of Prothom Alo Events and Activation, Shahparan Tushar, Executive, and Shubhashish Pramanik, Executive.

Furthermore, Jasim Uddin, Mosharraf Hossain, Sujan and Kamrul Hawlader, who were involved in supplying the power in Kishore Alo, did not request bail.
