Interior Minister Asaduzzaman Khan has said that Anis Ahmed and Harish Ahmed, two brothers of the army chief, General Aziz Ahmed, have been “pardoned” according to the rules.
‘The release process for Harish and Anis has been completed through due process. There is nothing secret about that, ‘he said. Regarding the removal of Harish Ahmed’s name from the police wanted list, he said that Harish’s name and photo were included due to a communication gap.
Following a recent report in Al-Jazeera about General Aziz Ahmed’s brothers Anis Ahmed and Harish Ahmed, the military said the army chief’s brothers had already been acquitted.
Both were charged in the murder case. Al Jazeera denounced the two as fugitives. On Tuesday, Army Chief General Aziz Ahmed also spoke to reporters after an Army Aviation Group program in Dhaka.
When asked by Al Jazeera about meeting his “fugitive” brothers abroad and their presence at a wedding in Bangladesh, he said: “There was no conviction or case against my brother that day.”
“They have been released from the previous case.”
Subsequently, it was reported in the Bangladeshi media that the Interior Ministry had issued a notice condoning their sentences in March 2019, although it has not been made public so far.
The Al Jazeera report entitled “All the Prime Minister’s Men” has been widely discussed and criticized in Bangladesh since its broadcast. Meanwhile, when the issue of the remission of sentences for Anis Ahmed and Harish Ahmed came to light, there was much discussion and criticism about it.
In this context, when media workers wanted to know the Interior Minister’s comment on the issue today, he made that comment about Anis Ahmed and Harish Ahmed.
