Four leaders of the Bangladesh Student Rights Council have been reportedly detained by the police. On Sunday (October 11), around noon, his mother Masuma Begum accused Nazmul Huda, vice chairman of the Dhaka University council branch, of taking off his white clothes from the Magbazar area. After that, the leaders and workers of the city council have complained of having picked up three leaders plus one by one.
Muhammad Rashed Khan, interim coordinator of the Student Rights Council, told Jago News that there was a case against the central joint coordinator Saiful Islam and the vice president of the DU branch, Nazmul Huda, for aiding and inciting rape. Nazmul was picked up by someone at noon. In addition, they took away two leaders of the Student Rights Council, Sohrab Hossain and Asif Mahmud, dressed in white.
“I have received reports that the police have detained four leaders of the Student Rights Council without an arrest warrant,” he said. We and the victim’s family cannot be traced back to the police and DB. Since the police are not talking about arresting them, we have assumed that they have been disappeared by state forces. We strongly condemn and protest the incident.
Rashed Khan said that the government was doing this to suppress the anti-rape movement across the country and spread panic among ordinary people.
DB Ramna (DC) Deputy Commissioner HM Azimul Haque said his team had not arrested anyone in the rape case.
Walid Hossain, deputy commissioner of the DMP’s media and public relations department, was called more than once, but no statement was received.
