Earlier, a section of students protested at the madrasa demanding the release of Allama Shafi and the expulsion of his son Anas Madani, the deputy director of the madrasa. Due to that conflict, ‘Grand Master’ Allama Shafi voluntarily resigned as Director General at the Shura Committee meeting on September 16 due to illness. At that meeting, two teachers, including Shafi’s son, were released. This marked the end of Ahmad Shafi’s long rule in Hathazari Bara Madrasa.

Immediately after that meeting, Ahmed Shafi was sent by ambulance from Madrasa to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. From there he was taken to Dhaka and died the next day. Shafiputra Anas Madani told reporters in Dhaka that day that her father had died of “heart failure” due to “stress” due to the “unexpected” incident the day before. Due to these reasons, there has been a delay in receiving treatment.
