All illegal billboards to be removed in phases: Mayor Atiqul

Dhaka: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam said that all illegal billboards erected in different parts of the capital would be removed in phases.

Noting that there will be no irregularities in the city of Dhaka, the DNCC mayor said that it is undesirable to campaign in his own way by littering the city.

He made the remarks during an illegal billboard removal campaign near the Deputy Deputy Commissioner of Police’s office adjacent to the rail crossing on the east side of the airport on Wednesday (September 2) at noon.

Atiqul Islam said that it is completely inappropriate to see a large billboard in the red-green country as soon as it leaves the airport.

The billboard was erected in 2004. He said that no one had removed the billboard for 18 years. I am removing this billboard. From here everyone will get at least a little message that all illegal billboards will be removed from Dhaka city in phases.

Mentioning that various media outlets were obstructing him to remove the billboard, Mayor Atiqul said that the billboard was very unsightly. There is no benefit to city dwellers or city corporations here.

Atiqul Islam warned that some people who benefit from such posters everywhere warn that it is an injustice.

The mayor pointed out that the iron will be auctioned as soon as the billboard is unveiled in front of everyone and its story will end.

In response to a question, the mayor said that the billboard has pictures of influential people. Many have told me not to remove the billboard. Many people have challenged me to remove it. I accepted the challenge and lowered the billboard.

The mayor added that the municipal corporation’s tax collection combing operation started from September 1. Several business entities that had refrained from paying taxes for a long time. For this reason, its sign has been left.

The mayor of Dhaka North further said that as of October 1, there will be no DIS and Internet hanging in the capital. These will be carried underground in their phases.
