A case has been brought against four individuals under the Digital Security Law at the Fatullah Model Police Station in Narayanganj for allegedly granting status to the late Amir Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi of Hefazat-e-Islam on their Facebook page. Mufti Harunur Rashid, secretary general of the Narayanganj metropolitan Ulema Parishad, presented the case on Sunday afternoon.
On the same day, the police raided the Mahmudpur area in Fatullah and arrested Mufti Alauddin Jihadi, 35, director of Abtahi Mujaddediya Sunnia Madrasa and Orphanage. The other defendants in the case are Manik (15) from Jahapur village in Alamdanga upazila from Chuadanga, Abdullah Al Mamun (18) from Faridpur and Ahsan Ullah (18) from Comilla.
Aslam Hossain, officer in charge of the Fatullah Model Police Station, said it was not okay to criticize anyone’s death. A case has been filed under the Digital Security Act in this regard. The Facebook ID called ‘Mufti Alauddin’ has been identified from the ID with which the insult was made. The other defendant shared it after granting him abusive status from this identification. This matter is under further investigation.
OC Aslam Hossain said that Mufti Alauddin Jihadi was presented in the Narayanganj court today and detained for five days. The court set a date for tomorrow’s hearing and ordered him sent to jail. Tomorrow morning there will be a pretrial detention hearing.
Narayanganj Alem-Olama has organized a human chain this afternoon to protest against the insult to the late Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi. There they spoke, demanding exemplary punishment for the guilty. Maulana Ferdous, Maulana Zahir, Maulana Rabiullah, Narayanganj Markaz Maulana Omar Farooq, Union Parishad (UP) member GM Amin Hossain and others were present at the time.
