Workers at the Akij Bidi factory in Kushtia’s Daulatpur upazila clashed with the police. The police fired several blank shots to control the situation. The incident took place in front of the main gate of the Akij Bidi factory in Hossainabad of upazila around 8:30 am on Saturday.
It is known that a man named Shipul Islam was shot. He is a resident of the Hossainabad Gairipara area.
According to eyewitnesses and local sources, some workers tried to enter the factory after the deadline. An argument broke out between the two parties when the factory security guards intervened. At one point the situation heated up and the factory authorities informed the police. The police arrived and tried to evacuate the workers. At this time, the agitated workers began to throw bricks. To control the situation, the police first began to beat and then fire blank shots.
Upon hearing the news of the workers’ protest, all the factory workers stopped working and blocked the Kushtia-Pragpur road in Hossainabad Bazar. They were joined by workers from the Filipnagar factory in upazila. It has been reported that a worker named Shipul Islam was injured in the police shooting. It is still inside the factory. Several workers were injured in the police beating.
